Teen Girl Fatally Attacked on Way to School in Croydon
Tragedy struck Croydon as 15-year-old Elianne Andam was violently attacked on Wellesley Road at around 8:30am on Wednesday, September 27. Rushing to the scene just two minutes after the emergency call, police and paramedics fought to save her. But despite their efforts, Elianne sadly died at the scene.
Family’s Heartbreaking Tribute
A family spokesperson broke their silence, saying, “Our hearts are broken by the senseless death of our daughter. Elianne was the light of our lives – bright, funny and loved by many. She was only 15, with her whole life ahead of her. All those hopes and dreams have now been shattered. We ask the media to respect our privacy as we grieve the short life of our beautiful child.”
Police Make Quick Arrest, Probe Continues
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command swooped on a 17-year-old boy in New Addington just 75 minutes after the attack, charging him with suspicion of murder. He remains in custody, with his detention extended by 12 hours as the investigation intensifies.
Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford, leading the probe, revealed:
“We’re making good progress. CCTV footage and witness interviews are helping piece together what happened. Forensic experts have examined the scene thoroughly.”
Calls for Witnesses and Community Support
Officers confirmed the assault happened outside near a bus stop on Wellesley Road—not on the bus itself. They urge anyone who saw the attack to come forward, promising support for those affected by this traumatic event.
The Croydon community remains shaken. DCI Woodsford thanked locals for their patience and support, while a post-mortem scheduled for September 28 aims to provide further clarity.
Police are also probing the relationship between Elianne and the suspect, believed to be known to her.
