Flames Rip Through 80 Tonnes of Rubbish at Hampshire Recycling Site

Fire crews from across Hampshire battled a massive blaze that tore through a mountain of household waste near Basingstoke.

Late-Night Inferno at Recycling Centre

The fire broke out just after 10pm on 29 August in the tipping hall of a site close to Chineham. A staggering 80 tonnes of rubbish went up in flames, sending firefighters into action immediately.

Heavy Machinery Joins Fight Against Fire

Firefighters used diggers and other mechanical equipment to dig out the burning rubbish and smother the hotspots. At the peak, around 50 firefighters were on the scene. Now just 15 remain, expected to work through the day tackling the smouldering heap.

No Injuries or Public Danger

Thankfully, no one was hurt during the blaze. Authorities have confirmed there’s no risk to the public following the fire.
