Hero Mum Dies Trying to Save Kids in Horrific Boxing Day Blaze
Fire Tears Through Family Cottage in Gloucestershire
A heroic mum in her 40s died trying to save her two young children in a devastating fire that engulfed their Cotswold stone home in Stroud on Boxing Day morning. The inferno broke out around 3am at a mid-terrace house on Brimscombe Hill.
Tragically, the seven-year-old girl, her four-year-old brother, and their mother all lost their lives. The father, a serving Gloucestershire police officer, escaped but was seriously harmed fighting through smoke and flames to save his family.
Neighbours had to drag the distraught dad away as he desperately tried to re-enter the blazing property. Witnesses say he smashed a bathroom window to escape and battled to reach the kids’ bedroom, but the fierce fire blocked his way.
Firefighters Face Nightmarish Rescue
Emergency crews arrived to find the roof collapsing and the inside falling apart, making it too dangerous to recover all the victims. The mother and one child’s bodies were recovered on Sunday, with formal identification still pending.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Nathaniel Hooton saluted the bravery of his team: “It was extremely challenging. We tried everything to rescue the occupants and continue supporting the tragic recovery effort.”
