Speeding BMW Drags Horse in Shocking Aylesbury Hit-and-Run
Police are hunting witnesses after a reckless driver sped around a blind bend in Thornton Road, Aylesbury, causing a horse to fall and be dragged before fleeing the scene.
Horse Injured, Rider Shocked but Unhurt
The incident happened around 3.35pm on June 16. The horse suffered injuries to both front legs and is now receiving urgent veterinary care. The rider, a woman, escaped serious injury but was left shaken and showing signs of shock.
Driver Fleeing Scene Described as Late 50s White Male
Investigators say the culprit was behind the wheel of a gunmetal steel grey BMW 1 Series. The driver is described as a white man in his late 50s, accompanied by a female passenger of similar age and a child in the back seat.
Police Appeal for Dashcam Footage and Witnesses
“This incident was distressing for the rider and the horse sustained injuries which are now requiring treatment,” said Sergeant Emily Dover of Buckingham Neighbourhood Policing Team.
“The driver showed total disregard for the welfare of the horse and rider by speeding off. We urge anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.”
The vehicle was last seen travelling from Thornton, turning left when the crash occurred. Thames Valley Police urge anyone with information to call 101 quoting reference URN 933 (16/6).
