A mounted police horse was viciously attacked by a loose dog in London’s Victoria Park, sending shockwaves through the crowd and sparking chaos.
Mounted Cop’s Horse Bites Back at Aggressive Dog
Video footage shows a tense standoff as a man wields a hefty stick, desperately trying to shove the dog away. Meanwhile, mounted officers shout, “Get hold of the dog!” – but their efforts fall short as the relentless canine sinks its teeth into the horse’s legs.
In a heart-stopping moment, the horse buckles and crashes to the ground under the attack. One bystander gasps, “This is so bad,” while others shout for someone to grab the dog immediately.
Injured Horse Gets Emergency Care After Attack
After a few harrowing minutes, an officer dismounts to check on the injured horse. “Get that dog on a lead now!” he commands urgently.
The horse, named PH Urbane of Bow, needed stitches but is expected to make a full recovery before returning to duty. A police statement said: “He will hopefully be back on duty as soon as he has fully recovered, but not sooner.”
Police Urge Owners: Keep Dogs on Leads
The attacking dog remains held at police kennels while officers contact its owner. No arrests have been made so far.
Officers stressed the dire importance of keeping dogs on leads if they can’t be fully controlled or recalled. “We cannot emphasise enough how important it is to keep dogs on a lead if you are unable to recall or control them,” the statement said.
They also thanked numerous members of the public who tried to help calm the situation and assist the injured horse.
