Drama unfolded in Abbey Wood on Saturday afternoon as a blaze tore through a maisonette on Lensbury Way. Two women managed a daring escape before firefighters arrived to tackle the flames.
Massive Fire Brigade Response Quells Blaze
The fire broke out just before 1:50pm on March 20, sparking a rapid emergency call. The London Fire Brigade deployed six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from multiple stations including Plumstead, Greenwich, Deptford, Brixton, Lee Green, and Eltham.
Thanks to their heroic efforts, the fire was under control by 3:10pm, preventing further damage and injury.
Investigation Underway, Public Urged to Help
The cause of the fire remains unknown. The Brigade revealed that their control room received 11 calls reporting the blaze. A spokesperson urged anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation.
“Public assistance may be crucial in determining what sparked the fire and stopping similar disasters in future,” the London Fire Brigade said.
