Isle of Wight Council Scoops Global Digital Regeneration Award!

The Isle of Wight Council has bagged a major international prize for its cutting-edge digital regeneration project. The council took home the Smart Island Programme award at the prestigious Smart Island World Congress held this week in Mallorca, Spain.

Digital Conference Praised for Island’s Future

Judges lauded the council’s efforts to get local businesses, service providers, and young people involved during its groundbreaking digital conference back in November 2017. This event sparked a bold regeneration plan that aims to create a business innovation hub, driving forward the Island’s digital future.

Leading the Way on the Global Stage

Chris Ashman, the council’s director of regeneration, said: “This award puts the Island on the global map and our work will help other islands facing similar challenges. At the congress, we saw that other islands struggle with growing their businesses, supporting an ageing population, and keeping young people here.

“I’m proud that we’re leading the way and that our partnership efforts have gained this international recognition.”

Council leader Councillor Stewart added: “This is another sign that the Isle of Wight is ahead of the game, taking a major step towards becoming a genuinely digital Island.”

Councillor Michael Murwill, who helped shape the conference, said:

“The Island is perfect for attracting and growing tech businesses, and we’re laser-focused on boosting this sector moving forward.”

The Isle of Wight is firmly stepping into the digital spotlight, setting the pace for innovation and regeneration worldwide.
