Devastating Flash Floods Wreck Cornwall
A monstrous 4ft wall of floodwater tore through Cornwall today, smashing roads and damaging at least 50 properties. Freak thunderstorms unleashed chaos across southern Britain, leaving residents trapped and forcing dramatic helicopter rescues.
Trapped Villagers Winched to Safety
Flooding first hit the village of Coverack at 3.40pm, prompting emergency services to declare a major incident by 5.20pm. At least seven people became stranded, with six forced onto a rooftop as waters surged.
“Two residents were airlifted to safety by the Coastguard helicopter,” confirmed a council spokesperson. Despite the destruction, thankfully no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Emergency Response in Full Swing
The UK Coastguard dispatched three search and rescue teams to support fire and rescue crews on the ground. Helicopters remain on standby as rescue efforts continue amid ongoing severe weather threats.
