Diver in Danger: Mayday Sparks Big Sea Rescue Off UK Coast
A dramatic rescue mission kicked off after the charter boat Final Answer sent a mayday call. Just after 3.20pm on Sunday, the vessel reported a diver suffering serious decompression sickness and needing urgent medical help.
Coastguard and Lifeboat Scramble to Scene
The UK Coastguard sprang into action, dispatching a lifeboat from Littlehampton’s RNLI station. Simultaneously, the Coastguard’s search and rescue helicopter 175 launched from Lee on the Solent base. The distressed vessel was found about eight miles offshore.
High-Stakes Airlift to Save Diver’s Life
A helicopter paramedic was winched down onto the boat to treat and airlift the diver. The patient had missed two crucial decompression stops after a dive, raising alarms for urgent care. The plan is to fly them straight to a decompression chamber for emergency treatment.
More updates to follow as the rescue unfolds.
