Rush-Hour Horror: Double-Decker Injures 17 Outside London Victoria
Chaos on the Pavement
Seventeen people were hurt after a double-decker bus lurched onto the pavement during this morning’s rush hour outside London Victoria Station. The smash took place on Victoria Street, Westminster, just after 8.20am, prompting a huge emergency response.
Police, paramedics, firefighters, and London’s Air Ambulance raced to the scene to deal with the chaos.
Passengers, Pedestrians and Driver Hurt
Fifteen of the injured—including the bus driver, passengers, and pedestrians—were rushed to hospital. Two others received treatment at the scene. Thankfully, no one suffered life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses described “chaotic” scenes with screams and several people lying on the ground in pain.
Bus Front Wrecked, Diesel Spill Sparks Smoking Ban
Photos show the front of the double-decker badly mangled in the collision. Diesel spilled down Allington Street, forcing police to ban smoking in the area amid safety fears.
Victoria Street remains shut between Wilton Road and Buckingham Palace Road as crash investigators comb the scene for clues.
Police Urge Witnesses to Step Forward
Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah said: “We understand this incident will have been very distressing to all those involved and injured and we have begun an investigation. We are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to please contact us. We welcome any dash cam or mobile phone footage.”
Official Responses from London Ambulance and TfL
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed: “We treated 17 people in total. We took 15 patients to hospital and discharged two patients at the scene. We sent multiple crews, advanced paramedics, incident response officers, and also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.”
Rosie Trew, head of bus service delivery at Transport for London (TfL), added: “Our thoughts are with the people who have been injured following a bus incident at Victoria Street. We are working with the police and the operator to urgently investigate this incident. Support is available for those affected.”
