Tragic Death on Chelsea Bridge After Police Taser Incident
The Met is investigating after a man died following a shocking incident on Chelsea Bridge early Saturday morning.
Man Armed with Screwdriver Causes Alarm
Police were called to a disturbance on Chelsea Bridge Road, SW1, at 9:03am on 4 June. Witnesses reported a man in his early 40s shouting and wielding a screwdriver.
Taser Fired, Rescue Launched
Officers quickly arrived and confronted the man on the bridge. A Taser was discharged, but they couldn’t safely detain him. The man then plunged into the river.
The RNLI stepped in immediately, rescuing him from the water. Despite being rushed to hospital, he sadly died that evening.
Investigation Underway as Family Mourns
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a full probe. The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards referred the case to ensure transparency.
“My thoughts are with the man’s family at this very difficult time,” said Frontline Policing Commander Alexis Boon. “I express my heartfelt condolences for their tragic loss.”
“Our officers face tough challenges every day and understand their actions must withstand public scrutiny,” Boon added.
The man’s family has been notified. The Met pledges full cooperation with the ongoing investigation as questions swirl over the incident on Chelsea Bridge.
