Met Police Sweetens Pay Deal with Extra Raise for Officers
The Metropolitan Police is topping up the Government’s 7% pay rise with an extra boost for officers this September, aiming to keep the force sharp and motivated amid soaring living costs.
Sir Mark Rowley: Fair Pay Crucial to Keep London Safe
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said: “We want to deliver the best police service for Londoners. That means recruiting and keeping the best people in a tough job market and tough financial times.”
He added, “Our officers work extraordinarily hard. Fair pay is vital for their success and wellbeing. While the 7% government award was welcome, we have to do more to tackle the cost of living crisis and the extra financial pressures of working in London.”
Rowley also confirmed extra funds have been set aside to raise pay for Met staff, recognising they face the same money worries as officers. Talks with unions will start soon to finalise the pay hikes.
Met Federation Chief Praises Extra £1,000 Pay Top-Up
Paul Deller, General Secretary of the Met Federation, hailed the move: “The Commissioner’s extra £1,000 on top of the 7% rise is a welcome boost for officers struggling with the cost of living.”
He warned, “Police pay has fallen up to 17% behind over the past decade. This hopefully marks the start of a series of pay rises to restore proper levels.”
New Recruitment Drive Launches Next Week
The Met is also gearing up to launch a fresh recruitment campaign, inviting Londoners to join the force in what promises to be a rewarding career with plenty of opportunities.
