Met Police Urges Protest Freeze Over Armistice Weekend
The Metropolitan Police has urgently asked protest organisers to postpone any London demonstrations during the busy Armistice Weekend. Senior officers warn breakaway groups are hijacking peaceful protests to stir up trouble.
Rising Violence Sparks Police Concern
Despite organisers successfully managing tens of thousands of lawful protests since October 7, the Met is alarmed by a spike in criminal behaviour. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan highlighted the growing threat from fringe factions aiming to incite violence during this critical weekend.
“Given the significance and crowds in the capital over Armistice Weekend, holding protests now risks serious disorder,” said Adelekan. “We strongly urge organisers to reconsider.”
Sharp Rise in Hate Crimes and Arrests
- Over 160 arrests since early October for violence, assaults, and racially motivated offences
- Anti-Semitic and Islamophobic hate crimes soaring, with 554 and 220 reports respectively between Oct 1 and Nov 1
- Just last Saturday, a suspect was arrested for making anti-Semitic remarks over a PA system
The organisers, however, have refused to delay their protests, leaving the Met braced for potential chaos.
Met Pledges Tight Security on Armistice Weekend
The Metropolitan Police are monitoring the situation closely and analysing intelligence to tackle threats swiftly. They are committed to protecting Londoners and visitors during this sensitive time, but the message is clear: protests during Armistice Weekend carry dangerous risks that organisers should not ignore.
