London’s Police Dogs Sniff Out Knives, Swords, and Drugs Across the Capital
Over the weekend, the Met’s four-legged heroes were on full alert, helping officers catch suspects and uncover hidden weapons and drugs across London.
Knife Fight on Bus Foiled by PD Rocky
On Friday afternoon in Sutton, police were called to a bus fight. A suspect tossed away a knife, but PD Rocky had the last word. The pooch sniffed out a 4-inch kitchen knife hiding in a bush nearby, preventing what could have been a nasty escalation.
Samurai Sword and Drugs Seized in Barking
Just hours later in Barking, a man bolted from a vehicle carrying a Samurai sword and drugs. That’s when PD Hugo sprang into action. After scouring open gardens, Hugo found the suspect hiding behind a garage. He was arrested for possession with intent to supply and carrying an offensive weapon.
Heroin and Crack Cocaine Busted in Wandsworth
PD Stanley and PD Stella helped net a suspect in Wandsworth who tried to toss drugs out of a window. Spotting the police dog waiting, the crook went back inside and opened the door. Stella then searched the garden and uncovered large lumps of uncut heroin plus multiple rocks of crack cocaine.
Two Men Caught for Assault and Firearms in Redbridge
Late Friday night, PD Nahla, Ziggy, and Sky played a key role in catching two men after an assault in Redbridge. One was found hiding by Nahla along with a discarded can of CS spray. The other was located on a garage roof by Ziggy and Sky. Both suspects were arrested for GBH and firearms offences.
Early Sunday: Dogs Track Domestic Assault Perpetrator and More
- In Bexley at 4am, PD Georgie tracked down a man deep in Abbey Woods suspected of a serious domestic assault. The suspect surrendered after a 20-minute search.
- At 5pm, PD Yara found a large ‘Rambo’-style knife hidden in bushes along a canal path – no doubt the kind of weapon that could terrify Londoners.
- Later in Hackney, Yara helped uncover 30 wraps of Class A drugs in a car search. Both occupants were arrested. More drugs were found in the driver’s home.
Sunday Morning Car Chase Ends with PD Nico’s Sharp Nose
After a vehicle pursuit in Neasden at 3.15am, police stopped a man three streets away but weren’t sure if he was the right suspect. PD Nico tracked footprints and scents along streets and into a garden, pointing out the exact wall the fleeing driver had climbed. The man was arrested for failing to stop and an earlier burglary.
Robbery Suspects Nabbed Thanks to PD Storm
At 4.10am in Harrow, PD Storm’s sniffing skills helped recover discarded car keys in thick undergrowth – crucial evidence that led to two arrests on robbery charges.
Met Police Praise Canine Crimefighters
“At all hours of the day and night, our police dogs and their handlers stand ready to support their colleagues,” said Chief Inspector Graham Horwood of the M07 Taskforce. “Their training and abilities help find elusive suspects and hidden evidence. Time and time again, these partnerships bring serious offenders to justice and keep London safe.”
