A massive crane collapsed onto a residential property and construction site in Bow, E3, sparking a major multi-agency investigation.

Woman Dies at Scene, Worker Critically Injured

Police were called to Gale Street at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, 8 July. Emergency teams, including London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade, rushed to the scene.

Tragically, an elderly woman in her 80s inside the home died instantly. Specialist firefighters are carefully recovering her body. Her family has been informed, with formal identification and post-mortem pending.

A construction worker caught up in the collapse remains in critical condition in hospital. Several others have suffered minor injuries.

Full-Scale Probe Underway

  • The Met Police’s Central East Command Unit and Specialist Crime teams are leading the inquiry.
  • The Health and Safety Executive and London Fire Brigade are also involved.
  • Local authorities are providing support to those affected.

The site remains cordoned off, with the investigation in its early stages. No arrests have been made yet as enquiries continue.
