Father and Daughter Die in Horrific Caravan Blaze at Golden Beach Holiday Park
A heartbreaking tragedy struck the Lincolnshire coast as Lee Baker, 48, and his 10-year-old daughter Esme Baker lost their lives in a devastating caravan fire at Golden Beach Holiday Park.
Tragic Fire on Easter Holiday Kickoff
The fire erupted in the early hours of Saturday, April 5 — the very first day of the Easter school holidays. Emergency crews from Skegness, Wainfleet, Spilsby, and Alford rushed to the scene around 3:53 am but were unable to save the pair.
Lee and Esme were said to be thrilled to spend the start of the holidays together. In a tearful statement released via police, the family said, “We are all utterly devastated at what’s happened. This loss is incomprehensible at the moment, and we ask for people to give us space to process this utterly heartbreaking loss.”
Community in Mourning
Friends and family described Lee and Esme as “two peas in a pod” — always happy and full of life. A GoFundMe page set up by a local bar owner calls the Bakers “happy-go-lucky people who loved life.”
Jack Price, who works at the Sandancer pub next to the park, said, “They weren’t just customers to us. Everyone behind the bar knew them. They came in every weekend. It was always a handshake, a hug, and ‘see you tomorrow.’” Tributes flooded social media:
“Love you all, sleep well Esme, you beautiful girl.”
Fire Investigation Underway
Police and Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are investigating the cause of the blaze. Detective Inspector Lee Nixon admitted the fire’s intensity has made the probe challenging but promised to find answers for the grieving family.
Dan Moss, area manager for prevention and protection at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, added, “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family at this time. A full investigation is ongoing.”
Shockwaves Through the Community
The owners of Golden Beach Holiday Park sent their deepest sympathies to the families affected. The tragedy echoes a similar horrific event almost three years ago at Sealands Caravan Park in Ingoldmells, where toddler Louisiana Brooke Dolan died in a caravan fire suspected to be caused by a faulty boiler.
The National Grid switched off power to about 50 local customers to aid the investigation. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area to let emergency crews do their work safely.
The community remains stunned, remembering Lee and Esme’s joyful spirits and close bond. A charity night to celebrate their lives is being planned, with details to be announced soon.
