Police Smash Two Drug Dens in One Day as Organised Crime Hits Coventry
Coventry cops cracked down hard on organised crime, executing their second warrant in a single day. On Wednesday, January 25, officers stormed a property on Gulson Road, bursting through the door and catching two men – believed to be Albanian nationals – red-handed.
£100,000 Worth of Cannabis Plants Seized – Two Arrested
The raid uncovered around 90 cannabis plants. The upstairs was a full-on drug factory, used to grow and harvest the haul, estimated to be worth a staggering £100,000 on the open market. The two men arrested were handed over to immigration services.
Fire Risk Sparks Alarm: ‘Lethal’ Electrical Setups Found
This bust follows a £300,000 drug seizure last week as cops targeted multiple cannabis farms across the city. One property on Bramble Street was called “one of the worst” drug dens officers have ever seen, packed with £230,000 worth of drugs.
Both raided properties had electrical supplies cut off, with dangerous setups bypassing meters. National Grid warned these illegal connections pose a huge fire risk to residents and neighbours alike.
“We were there to ensure the electrics are safe,” a National Grid spokesman said. “Unsafe connections caused by bypassed metres or overloaded sockets pose a fire hazard.”
“We strongly advise the public not to tamper with our equipment as the voltages we work with are lethal. Our engineers are trained and equipped to handle these risks safely.”
Police Vow to Keep Targeting Dangerous Drug Factories
Coventry Police Inspector Alex Heeley said: “During Neighbourhood Policing Week, we shut down sophisticated drug operations that fuel crime in our communities. These setups to bypass electricity are dangerous and have already led to fires, putting lives at risk.”
“We will continue targeting those suspected of running and organising these factories. Vulnerable people are often exploited in these operations.”
So far this year, Coventry Police have uncovered over 20 cannabis farms, nearly half found during burglaries where rival gangs steal harvested crops.
