Ten Arrested in Massive Raids Targeting Gang Violence and Drug Crime in Hackney and Haringey
Early morning swoop sees cops hit 15 addresses, seizing drugs, cash, and firearms
Major Crackdown on London Gangs
Police launched a huge operation across north and east London this Thursday morning, smashing into 15 homes in Hackney and Haringey. The crackdown, dubbed Operation Detroit, saw 10 suspects – nine men and one woman aged 19 to 29 – arrested on serious charges including conspiracy to murder, firearm possession with intent, and conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
Firearms Search in Hertfordshire
The raids included a firearms search warrant at a Hertfordshire address, executed with help from armed officers. Investigators seized a stash of drugs, cash, and other vital evidence linking the suspects to violence and drug dealing in the capital.
Year-Long Investigation into Deadly Gang Wars
The swoops come after a 12-month probe into a spate of shootings and gang clashes in Hackney. Detective Inspector Matthew Webb, who led the operation, revealed how one attack in March involved an Uzi sub-machine gun – a stark reminder of the reckless danger posed by gangs.
“My message to anyone affiliated with a gang who carries firearms and other lethal weapons is clear – you do not own the streets, and you are not above the law,” said DI Webb.
“Officers across London work day and night to bring dangerous criminals to justice and protect communities from fear and violence.”
Police Boost Patrols to Keep Streets Safe
Specialist units including the Territorial Support Group, Dog Support Unit, and POLSA search teams joined forces for the raids. Police have promised a stepped-up presence and reassurance patrols in the affected neighbourhoods throughout the day, aiming to send a strong message to gang members terrorising east London.
