Raid uncovers massive cannabis farm after smashed door tip-off in Sutton-in-Ashfield

Police respond to early morning break-in alarm

Officers rushed to Outram Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, at 2.30am on Monday (7 August) after a local resident reported a gang of men smashing down a door at a nearby property.

On arrival, cops found a smashed window and a strong whiff of cannabis hanging in the air.

Cannabis farm spotted across multiple rooms

A thorough search revealed a sprawling cannabis grow operation spanning several rooms on the second floor and extending into the attic. Despite the scale, no one was inside during the raid. However, signs showed many plants had already been harvested and removed.

Warning from Nottinghamshire Police

Detective Sergeant Nathan Bingham said: “This cannabis grow has attracted further criminality to the area which is something we see again and again. They frequently bring with them antisocial behaviour, a rise in shop theft and can become a target for break-ins like this.”

“Cannabis grows also pose a danger to other neighbours because of the tampering with electricity supplies which invariably takes place.”

“Cultivation of cannabis is sometimes seen as a victimless crime but nothing could be further from the truth.”

“Grows of this nature are often linked to violent organised crime gangs from home and abroad – people who can engage in serious violence and even human slavery to protect their profits.”

“I urge all local residents to tell us if they suspect this kind of thing to be going on in their neighbourhood. We will investigate and take appropriate action.”
