Police Officers Sprayed with Unknown Substance in Clapham Hotel Attack

Two police officers were targeted with a mysterious chemical in the early hours of Saturday morning. The shocking attack happened at a hotel on Clapham Common South Side.

Emergency Response Rushed to Scene

The officers were responding to a 999 call at the Clapham South Hotel when they were suddenly sprayed with an irritant. One officer struggled to breathe, forcing him to press his panic button for backup. London Ambulance Service paramedics and London Fire Brigade crews quickly arrived to assist.

Another person at the scene was treated by paramedics before being arrested.

Woman Arrested Over Assault on Police

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:

“Police attended an address in Clapham Common South Side, SW4 at approximately 1.10am on Saturday, 16 January following concerns for the welfare of an occupant. On arrival, officers attempted to gain entry but were sprayed with a substance causing irritation by the female occupant.”

Both officers were taken to hospital as a precaution but have since been discharged.

A woman in her 20s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting emergency service workers and possession of an offensive weapon. She remains in police custody.
