UK Sees Massive Surge in Solar Panels and Heat Pumps
The UK is smashing records with a 62% jump in heat pump and solar panel installations compared to last year. More than 120,000 certified renewable energy setups were completed in just the first half of 2023, according to the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).
Solar and Heat Pump Installations Hit New Highs
For the first time this year, monthly installations have topped 3,000, showing Brits are rushing to adopt cleaner, energy-efficient tech. The growth aligns with the UK’s bold targets: 70GW of solar capacity by 2035 and 600,000 heat pumps installed each year.
Battery Storage Booms Alongside Renewables
Battery storage installations are also booming, breaking monthly records throughout 2023 with over 1,000 new systems fitted every month. Homes and businesses are snapping up storage solutions to pair with their renewable setups.
Industry Experts See Even Bigger Uptake Ahead
Ian Rippin, MCS CEO: “As energy costs rise, more people are turning to renewable tech to generate their own power and heating.”
Gareth Simkins, Solar Energy UK: “The forecast of 215,000 MCS-certified solar installs this year is already looking low — we’re on track for around 250,000.”
Bean Beanland, Heat Pump Federation: “The growth is impressive, but we’ve got a huge job to make heat pumps mainstream this decade.”
This surge in renewable energy tech marks a major step toward a greener Britain committed to battling climate change and cutting energy bills. The renewable revolution is well and truly underway.
