Red Jet 7 ready to splash down late May! Red Funnel’s latest hi-speed ferry is gearing up for its maiden float. Built by Wight Shipyard in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight, the £7 million vessel is shaping up fast, with passenger cabins already mounted on its twin hulls. The crucial installation of four engines, generators, and waterjets is nearly done.
Bridge tech and bold new look in place
The bridge is coming alive, decked out with the latest electronic gear, control systems, and touchscreens—all set for testing. Soon, a specialist local contractor will wrap the superstructure in Red Funnel’s iconic Red Jet livery, first seen on sister ship Red Jet 6.
Commissioning, trials, and a name reveal on the horizon
Once afloat, Red Jet 7 will dock at Wight Shipyard for final equipment commissioning. Sea trials and crew training kick off late June, with an official naming ceremony planned for July.
Greener, faster, and built for comfort
Following in the wake of Red Jet 6, the new vessel boasts top-notch passenger comfort, unmatched reliability, and cutting-edge safety features. It’s also one of the greenest ferries in Red Funnel’s fleet, designed to slash running costs and protect the environment, fully aligned with the company’s ISO 14001:2015 accreditation.
