Maths Teacher Stabbed at Tewkesbury Academy Denies Fighting Rumours

Jamie Sansom, the maths teacher attacked in a stabbing at Tewkesbury Academy, has slammed claims he was trying to break up a student fight. The shocking incident happened in a school corridor on Monday morning. Thankfully, Sansom is now out of hospital and in stable condition.

Sansom Sets the Record Straight

Confronting swirling rumours, Sansom said it’s “simply not true” he was intervening in any student fight. He insists he did not see any direct threat to pupils during the ordeal. His statement aims to clear up confusion and give the real facts about what happened.

Grateful for Support from Hospital, Police, and Community

Sansom thanked staff at Gloucester Royal Hospital and Gloucestershire Police for their care and help. The maths teacher also praised the flood of over 100 supportive messages from parents, colleagues, and the school community.

“The outpouring of support from Tewkesbury Academy means a great deal,” Sansom said. “It’s been a big boost during this tough time.”

He plans to visit the school once he’s well enough, wanting to thank everyone in person for their backing.

Hopes to Return Before Summer – Investigation Ongoing

Looking ahead, Sansom hopes to get back in the classroom before summer break—pending medical clearance. He also wants to say a proper goodbye to his students and staff before moving to a new school later this year.

The stabbing forced Tewkesbury Academy into lockdown and shuttered nearby schools as a precaution. Assistant Chief Constable Richard Ocone promised extra police patrols to reassure families.

Meanwhile, a teenage boy remains in custody on suspicion of attempted murder. The investigation continues, with safety and healing at the heart of the school’s focus after this shocking attack.
