Man Shot Dead by Police in Carlisle Knife Incident

A man has died after a dramatic stand-off in Borland Avenue, Carlisle, today.

Armed Police Respond to Threat

Police were called at 3:37pm following reports of a man threatening people inside a property on Borland Avenue. Armed officers arrived to find the man, in his 40s, armed with a knife.

Firearm Discharged, Man Pronounced Dead

Moments after officers arrived, a police firearm was discharged. The man sustained gunshot injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries have been reported, and authorities believe the incident is isolated.

Police Continue Investigation and Reassure Community

A cordon remains in place as officers carry out enquiries. The force has urged the public to avoid the area. Increased patrols will be deployed across the Botcherby area overnight to support and reassure local residents.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct has been informed of the incident.
