Police Launch Terror Raid in Birmingham Linked to London Attack
Armed cops have swooped on Birmingham after a car used in a London terror attack was traced back to the city. The major operation is currently underway on Hagley Road, with police sealing off key stretches between Plough and Harrow Road, as well as Stirling Road near the Ivy Bush.
Hagley Road Lockdown
West Midlands Police confirmed the dramatic raid began around 11:50pm. A huge police presence quickly flooded the scene, prompting road closures including Fiveways Island and surrounding streets. Residents nearby have been told to stay indoors while specialist units carry out searches.
One local reported hearing rumours that a shooting took place on Hagley Road early yesterday morning, but police have not confirmed this.
National Terror Response in Full Swing
West Midlands Police released a statement saying: “Overnight, Metropolitan Police made a series of intelligence-led arrests and searches across the country, including in Birmingham. There is no immediate risk to public safety.”
Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale, heading counter-terrorism efforts, urged the public to stay alert but not alarmed. “Suspicious activity is anything out of place or unusual. Let us decide if it’s important,” he said. Beale added that security measures are constantly reviewed to keep the Midlands safe.
