Crash Chaos on M1 Near Wakefield: Witnesses Urgently Needed
A nasty smash on the M1 near Wakefield has caused chaos this morning. A Ford Fiesta and a Vauxhall Corsa collided on the southbound carriageway, leaving several injured and forcing a major road closure.
What Happened?
The crash occurred around 8:29am today, Saturday, August 12, between junctions 39 and 40. Police say the Vauxhall Corsa slammed into a stationary Ford Fiesta. The Fiesta had stopped due to a likely tyre blowout.
A female passenger in the Fiesta suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital by ambulance. Other occupants in both cars also needed medical care at the scene.
M1 Southbound Still Closed – Drivers Beware
Emergency services shut both sides of the M1 to attend the crash, reopening northbound earlier. But the southbound lanes remain closed while police carry out a full investigation and recovery.
Drivers heading south are urged to find alternative routes until the road reopens.
Police Hunt Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
The Roads Policing Unit wants anyone who saw the crash or captured it on camera to come forward. Reporters should quote log number 438 of August 12.
