East Street Market Stabbing: Elderly Man Killed, Two Others Hurt

Police have named 77-year-old Hilkiah McLeggan as the victim in a brutal stabbing at East Street Market, Walworth. The shocking attack happened around 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, November 10. While Hilkiah tragically died on the scene, two other men were seriously wounded, with one still in critical condition.

Suspect Charged with Murder and Attempted Murder

London police swooped on 66-year-old Ali Musse, who has no fixed address. He now faces one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. Musse is due in Croydon Magistrates Court on Tuesday, November 12.

Police Tackle Community Concerns and Rumours

“This was a horrific incident where a man lost his life and two others received serious injuries. The incident has understandably caused concern among the local community,” said Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, head of Southwark policing.

An increased police presence remains in Walworth to reassure locals and businesses. Addressing rumours on social media suggesting terrorism, Adjei-Addoh was clear: “Our enquiries indicate this is not the case, and we ask the public not to speculate.”

Witness Appeal: Police Urge Public to Come Forward

Detective Chief Inspector Alison Foxwell thanked Good Samaritans who helped at the scene. She urged anyone with information to contact police immediately. “Our officers have worked quickly to investigate this tragic incident and secure these charges,” she said.
