A young woman has been sentenced at Bristol Crown Court to nine years for the manslaughter of Nimroy Hendricks, who was fatally stabbed in Crawley in 2020.
Five Years Inside, Four on Licence
The girl appeared in court on Friday 4 March and received a total sentence of nine years: five years behind bars plus four years on extended licence. Originally charged with murder in July 2021, her charge was reduced after expert medical evidence showed she was suffering from a significant abnormality of mind at the time of the stabbing. The Crown accepted a plea of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility.
Tragic Death of Talented Musician
Nimroy Hendricks, known as Nim to friends and family, was found with a single stab wound to the chest on 27 October 2020 in Russell Way, Crawley. He later died from his injuries. Nim and the defendant were known to each other.
Police Appeal to Combat Knife Crime
“The loss of Nimroy Hendricks is heart-breaking,” said Detective Chief Inspector Andy Wolstenholme of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team. “The circumstances are complex and tragic. Nim was a peaceful, selfless, and caring man – a talented musician who loved life. His death was the tragic result of a knife taken from home, used in a place where it never should have been.”
Wolstenholme urged the public: “If you have information about individuals carrying knives in Sussex or anywhere else, please come forward. Help stop another family from facing the unimaginable pain Nim’s loved ones have suffered.”
