Friston attacker jailed for 12 years after stabbing teen left for hours on Dorset grassland

Brutal Assault on Teenage Girl

Alex Tye, from Low Road, Friston, has been sentenced to a minimum of twelve-and-a-half years behind bars before he can even be considered for parole. He also received a concurrent 12-month sentence for possession of an offensive weapon.

Police were alerted shortly after 7am on Sunday, 2 October, following reports from the East of England Ambulance Service that a teenage girl had been brutally attacked near the junction of Aldecar Lane and Benhall.

Victim Left for Hours Before Rescue

After the savage stabbing, the victim was abandoned on a patch of grassland and left alone for several hours. It was only when a dog walker spotted her that emergency services were called.

The young girl was rushed to Ipswich Hospital with serious stab wounds and a back injury.

Swift Police Action and Guilty Plea

Tye was arrested on the same day on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent. While in custody at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre, he was further charged with attempted murder and possession of a bladed weapon.

Appearing at Ipswich Crown Court on 18 January, Tye pleaded guilty to both charges, avoiding the trauma of a full trial for the victim and her family.

Community and Family Praise Police and NHS

“I would like to thank the family and community for their support,” said DCI Hinitt. “Special thanks to DC Rogers and the investigation team for their dedication in securing justice.”

The victim’s family added: “We are grateful for the professionalism and humanity of the police, and to the NHS staff at Ipswich Hospital and Stoke Mandeville whose care has been overwhelming. Our daughter has shown incredible spirit and is determined to live life to the full.”
