Conman Targets 87-Year-Old with Bogus Cleaning Goods Scam in Redcar
Dylan Bandeira conned his way into an elderly woman’s home in Redcar last May, pretending to sell cleaning products. He pushed overpriced, low-value items before swiping a large sum of cash from the 87-year-old victim.
Victim Left Terrified but Unharmed
Thankfully, the woman was not physically hurt, but the ordeal left her deeply shaken and scared to stay in her own home.
Rapid Police Action Nails the Culprit
Redcar & Cleveland CID launched a swift investigation that identified Bandeira as the prime suspect. He was arrested, charged, and remanded within just a month.
Justice Served After Refusal to Admit Guilt
Despite clear evidence, Bandeira refused to confess, forcing the victim to endure the stress of a trial. He was eventually found guilty by a jury at Teesside Crown Court last Friday.
Detective Sergeant Chris Thurston said: “Bandeira’s actions in targeting a vulnerable elderly woman were despicable and all our officers were determined to bring him to justice. Our detectives worked extremely hard to identify him whilst achieving the best possible evidence to secure a charge and we’re all relieved he was found guilty by a jury on Friday. We all hope the lady gains some comfort knowing he is in prison, and we all wish her well going forward.”
