Spitting Scum! Man Jailed for Targeting Bus Driver and Cop

A 23-year-old yob has been locked up after spitting at a bus driver — then doubling down by hurling spit at a police officer while in custody.

Uxbridge Man’s Shocking Outburst

William Cawley, 23, from Grove Lane, Uxbridge, copped a 10-month jail term after pleading guilty to two counts of common assault at Uxbridge Magistrates Court on 22 April.

It all kicked off on 20 April at Uxbridge bus station when Cawley jumped on a TfL bus through the wrong door.

The driver politely asked him to use the middle door instead. That didn’t go down well. Cawley flew into a rage and spat at the driver before storming off.

Police Chase Ends in Cuffs

Officers nearby were alerted and quickly spotted Cawley, who bolted but was caught after a short foot chase in Cocks Yard.

He was arrested for common assault and taken into custody — but his nastiness didn’t stop there.

Inside Custody: More Assaults and Shocking Claims

While detained, Cawley spat at a police officer and threatened violence, claiming he was infected with Covid-19.

He faced additional charges of common assault on an emergency worker.

Strong Words from Police and TfL

Detective Chief Inspector Fiona Martin, Roads and Transport Policing, said: “I am pleased with this sentence as it reflects the gravity of the offences Cawley committed. Spitting is a vile and disgusting act and will be dealt with severely, especially in these unprecedented times. Let this sentence be a warning to anyone who thinks spitting at key workers is acceptable — it isn’t. You will be arrested and prosecuted.”

Siwan Hayward, Director of Compliance, Policing and On-street Services at TfL, added: “We welcome Cawley’s sentencing and hope it sends a strong message. Spitting at our heroic frontline workers, especially during this crisis, is absolutely shocking. This incident left a valued colleague very shaken. Safety is our absolute priority and we will keep doing everything possible to protect our staff.”

Spitting at public workers isn’t just rude — it’s now criminal. Think twice before you act!
