Cringe-worthy Attempt: Spatula Used to Break In
Wayne Cuthbert, 39, from Durham, tried to break into a home on Fieldhouse Lane on July 4 – armed with nothing but a spatula he’d just nicked from a nearby outhouse. The kitchen window was his target.
Excuses Don’t Cut It
When the homeowner caught him in the act, Cuthbert claimed, “I’m just trying to get in the kitchen, to fix it.” The odd excuse didn’t fool anyone. Officers quickly caught and arrested him after a local search.
Justice Served Fast
At Durham Crown Court on October 30, Cuthbert was sentenced to 12 months behind bars and slapped with a £156 victim surcharge. PC Anna Pittam praised the teamwork involved:
“This was a real team effort between D relief response officers and Durham 1 CID. Thankfully the offender was quickly apprehended and a thorough investigation lead to a positive result for the victim.”
