Burglar Busted After Cutting Himself at Crime Scene
Between 20 and 22 November 2022, Gavin Prentice struck in Riding Lane, Hildenborough, targeting a house while the owners were away.
Smashes Door to Ransack Home
Prentice smashed a rear door’s glass to break in. Inside, he carried out a messy search, hunting for valuables. He made off with a stash of gold jewellery.
DNA Slip-Up Leads to Arrest
The homeowner reported the burglary to Kent Police upon return. Forensic experts found blood at the break-in point where Prentice had cut himself. His DNA matched the sample, leading to his arrest on 19 January 2023 at his Enfield, Greater London home.
Prentice Jailed for Over Two Years
The 28-year-old pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court. On 23 March, he was sentenced to two years and four months behind bars.
Detective Slams ‘Despicable’ Burglar
Detective Constable Celia King of West Kent CID said: “Prentice is a prolific burglar who thought he could sneak into Kent and target locals unnoticed. He stole jewellery of huge sentimental value but carelessly left his DNA at the scene, leading straight to his arrest. None of the stolen items were recovered. He truly deserves to do time in prison.”
