Burglar Caught on CCTV After Smash and Grab Spree
Tony Jackson was nailed on camera breaking into several businesses. The 51-year-old was slapped with a hefty sentence of three years and 10 months at Canterbury Crown Court.
Denied Charges But Found Guilty
Jackson, from Redbridge Close in Chatham, denied five burglary charges. But a jury wasn’t buying it and found him guilty on 9 October 2020 after a trial.
Crime Spree Across Folkestone and Sittingbourne
- 6 December 2019 – Smashes glass panels at a company in Shearway Business Park, Folkestone, then raids the office drawer for cash at 7pm.
- 28 December 2019 – Breaks into a Folkestone business via window on Caesar’s Way, steals large cash haul from a safe.
- 15 January 2020 – Hits two businesses on Bingham Road, Sittingbourne. Breaks in by smashing front doors. Snags a drill from one, cash from another.
- 21 February 2020 – Caught on CCTV at 3.39am breaking into a business on Maidstone Road, Rochester. Swipes a drill, money, and a ladder.
Evidence Stacks Up: CCTV, Vehicle Checks, and More
Police tracked Jackson’s movements through CCTV footage and vehicle checks, linking him to the crime scenes. When arrested on 25 February, officers found his car and bright orange hi-vis jackets matching those worn during the Rochester raid.
Detective Constable Nicola Emery said: “Jackson specifically targeted premises at times he believed they would be empty. During the burglaries he caused significant damage to the offices which resulted in thousands of pounds having to be spent to make the premises safe and secure. His actions resulted in a lengthy sentence and I hope it sends a clear message that this type of crime will not be tolerated.”
