Horrific Attack in Sutton-in-Ashfield
Peter McGarry went on a cocaine and alcohol binge before brutally attacking his 76-year-old father, Malcolm McGarry, at their home in Northfield Close, Sutton-in-Ashfield.
Police were called to the house in the early hours of 1 December last year and found Malcolm unconscious in the living room with severe head and facial injuries.
Paramedics’ Desperate Efforts Fail
Officers and paramedics rushed to perform CPR, but sadly, Malcolm was pronounced dead at 2.05am.
Son Arrested and Denies Killing Dad
Peter McGarry, 53, was detained at the scene. When told he was suspected of murdering his father, he shockingly responded: “My dad? Are you kidding?”
Life Sentence for Killer Son
At Nottingham Crown Court, it emerged that McGarry believed he was attacking a drug-dealing intruder, not his dad, due to his clouded state from cocaine and alcohol.
He pleaded guilty to murder in April and was handed a life sentence, with a minimum of 14 years and 123 days—time already served behind bars.
