Violent thug jailed for vicious attacks on police and partner on Isle of Wight

Bruno Borges launches brutal assaults on police and partner

Police were called to a Queens Road home in Shanklin at 5.11am on Thursday 12 May after reports of a disturbance. Officers found 35-year-old Bruno Borges in a furious state, aggressively attacking a woman he knew. Before police arrived, Borges had repeatedly battered her.

The violence didn’t stop there. Borges turned his fury on officers. During his arrest, he scratched and clawed at two officers’ hands and arms. He bit one cop’s leg while being dragged out of the property, then sunk his teeth into a different officer’s leg as he was carried to the van.

Repeat offender attacks same woman again in shocking June assault

Just a month later, on 10 June, Borges struck again. This time near Cockrams Yard in Newport, he assaulted the same woman, knocking her to the floor and chipping a tooth. A brave witness stepped in and smashed Borges to the ground to protect her.

Jail time delivered – 27 months behind bars

Borges faced multiple charges: four counts of assaulting emergency workers, assault by beating, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He pleaded guilty at earlier hearings. On Thursday 22 December, Isle of Wight Crown Court sentenced him to 27 months in prison and slapped a £190 victim surcharge on him.

PC 1 Hughes said: “Borges is a seriously violent man who shows clear intention to cause harm to everyone around him, including those close to him. He continually assaulted a woman, and displayed vile aggressive behaviour towards our officers.

“Police should not expect to come to a call each day to be treated in this disgusting manner, and neither should anyone be subjected to any form of domestic abuse.

“Tackling perpetrators of domestic abuse is an absolute priority for us, and we will do everything in our power to bring abusers to justice and protect vulnerable people. We really want more people to have the confidence to come forward and report this type offending, as we know it can often go unreported.”
