Drunk Driver Kills Teen in 20mph Zone Horror Crash
David Turner, 31, slammed his Audi S3 into 19-year-old university student Gabriel Fields after guzzling ten pints of lager and two shots. Turner was racing at motorway speeds of 50-60mph in a strict 20mph zone when his car mounted the pavement and struck Gabriel.
Gabriel Dies After Collision on Kirkham Street
The fatal smash happened just after 10pm on July 4, 2020, on Station Road, Kirkham. Gabriel was walking to a local shop where he worked part-time. Despite desperate efforts by emergency crews, Gabriel died at the scene from multiple injuries.
Turner lost control of the car, crashing into a bench and a tree after hitting Gabriel. One of Turner’s passengers was seriously hurt, while two others suffered minor injuries.
Turner Jailed for 7.5 Years – Faces Driving Ban
At Preston Crown Court, Turner admitted causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. He was sentenced to 10 years, reduced to 7.5 years due to guilty pleas. He also received a five-year driving ban starting after his release, with an extended driving test required before he can drive again.
Sgt Finn Quainton of Lancashire’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Gabriel’s death was totally unnecessary. Turner’s reckless drinking and speeding were a deadly mix. Gabriel was innocent and sober, simply walking on the pavement.”
“Turner was an accident waiting to happen. His aggressive driving throughout the day made this tragedy inevitable.”
“My thoughts are with Gabriel’s family. I hope today’s sentence brings some comfort.”
Family Mourns ‘Kind, Gentle’ Gabe
Gabriel’s mum, Jacqueline Blache-Rostron, described the devastating loss: “Gabe was kind, gentle, smart and funny. He was just 19, studying psychology, and had his whole life ahead of him. Nothing prepares you for losing your child in such a preventable way.”
Stepfather Adam Rostron added: “Gabriel was the perfect son and friend. I’m heartbroken and angry he’ll never graduate, marry, or achieve his dreams. We shared so many memories and milestones. I will miss everything about him.”
