Leigh Man Jailed for Life Over Fatal Punch Outside Club
Life Sentence for Paul Brierley
Paul Brierley, from Hendon Street, Leigh, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the manslaughter of 57-year-old Paul Ologbose. The grim verdict came after Brierley pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court on 13 July 2022.
Deadly Attack Outside Sports Club
Just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, 23 January 2022, police responded to reports of an assault outside Higher Fold Sports and Social Club on Kensington Drive. Paul Ologbose suffered a serious head injury after being punched by Brierley in what was described as an unprovoked attack. He was rushed to hospital but tragically passed away later that day.
Family Speak Out After Verdict
“No amount of time served will ever replace what we’ve lost. We just wanted justice for our dad, who was taken far too soon,” said Paul’s family. “This tragedy has shattered our family, and a large part of us will always be missing. Always loved and always missed.”
Investigating Officer’s Statement
Senior Investigating Officer Phil Reade expressed his condolences: “Once again, our thoughts are with Paul’s family and friends. I hope this sentence brings some solace to them. This incident is a stark reminder of how mindless violence leads to tragic consequences.”
The family also extended their gratitude to all those who supported them during this difficult time.
