A notorious drug den in Sutton-in-Ashfield has been shut down after neighbours’ endless complaints. The property on Priestsic Road closed its doors on Friday following relentless drug dealing and crime concerns.
Police Move Fast to Close Drug Hotspot
Nottinghamshire Police slapped the closure order under the Antisocial Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014. The move was quickly backed by Nottingham Magistrates’ Court, banning anyone from entering the premises for three whole months.
Break the ban, and offenders — even previous tenants — face criminal charges with fines or jail time.
Swift Action Brings Relief to Fearful Residents
The closure order is just one in a string secured alongside Ashfield District Council, offering immediate relief to locals fed up with living in fear.
It also hands landlords the legal grounds for mandatory repossession, hitting crime roots at the core.
Police Warn: More Crackdowns Incoming
“This property had become a magnet for drug-related criminality and antisocial behaviour. Neighbours were living in fear,” said Inspector Jon Hewitt, Ashfield district commander.
“I’m thrilled we’ve taken decisive action to protect residents. This closure is one of many, and it won’t be the last.”
“We’re eyeing other problem addresses, sending a clear message: step up the crime, and you’ll face the consequences. We won’t tolerate this behaviour.”
