Ex-Met Cop Jailed for Restraining Housemate
Sam Grigg, 36, was slammed with a four-year prison sentence at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, 10 February. He’ll also face a two-year extended licence upon release.
Former Officer Admits Shocking Crimes
Grigg, once part of the South West Basic Command Unit, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault back on 5 January. The case left shaken Londoners demanding answers.
Met Commander Condemns ‘Appalling’ Behaviour
Commander Jon Savell, head of the Met’s professional standards team, blasted Grigg’s actions:
“This was a terrifying ordeal for the woman. Grigg’s behaviour was appalling and I know it will cause concern among members of the public. He’s let down the Met and his colleagues who are committed to protecting Londoners.
“We acted fast—suspending him as soon as his offending came to light, and dismissing him at the earliest chance. The Met must be trusted, and officers must be someone the public can have confidence in. When standards slip, we act decisively.”
Grim Details of the Incident in Twickenham
- On 2 December 2022, while off duty, Grigg used tape to tie up his housemate against her will at their Twickenham home.
- After leaving her restrained, he cut her free with a knife, inadvertently injuring her.
- The victim suffered minor injuries but didn’t need hospital care.
The woman reported the incident to police on 6 December. Grigg was arrested that day and charged two days later. He was suspended on 8 December and then officially dismissed without notice on 30 January following his conviction.
