Couple Convicted for Brutal Daylight Shooting in Morden
A 25-year-old man was shot multiple times in a chilling broad daylight attack after Daniel Gaudin and Shannon Rule travelled by train from Waltham Forest to Merton. The victim was left with life-changing injuries in front of terrified witnesses.
Shannon Rule Found Guilty of Attempted Murder
On Thursday, 22 December, Shannon Rule, 22, from Ashwood Road, Chingford, was convicted of attempted murder at Kingston Crown Court. Gaudin, 23, of Cranleigh Close, Waltham Cross, had already pleaded guilty earlier in the case.
Jealousy Sparks Ruthless Shooting
The court heard the twisted plot stemmed from a love triangle. Rule had been involved with both the victim and Gaudin, who didn’t know each other. After discovering the other man, Gaudin sent threatening texts and recruited Rule to lure the victim to a meeting in Morden.
The victim thought he was meeting Rule alone but was ambushed and shot multiple times by Gaudin, with a crowd watching in horror. Police were called at 2:03pm on Tuesday, 22 June, to Central Road near Abbotsbury Road, where the victim was found and rushed to hospital by London Ambulance Service paramedics.
Quick Police Work Leads to Arrests
Gaudin and Rule tried to flee but ironically circled back near the crime scene, where firearms officers caught and arrested them. Rule denied knowing about the gun or Gaudin’s plan, but police uncovered texts warning the victim of Gaudin’s firearm—exposing her lies.
Detective Inspector Iain Wallace, who led the investigation, said:
“Our thoughts foremost are with the young man whose life was changed in an instant following a shocking and utterly needless act of wanton violence, born out of Gaudin’s sheer jealousy and insecurity. The terrible injuries he sustained mean he needs assistance for the rest of his life.”
He added,
“Gaudin and Rule will now pay the price for their ruthless, calculated attack with their freedom. There is no place for violence on our streets, and anyone involved can be sure the Met will bring them to justice.”
Gaudin and Rule are due to be sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on 19 January 2023.
