Drunken Rage Ends in Tragedy: Man Jailed for Life Over Fatal Holloway Assault
Wayne Packer, 31, has been locked up for life after brutally beating a frail 50-year-old man to death in Holloway. The Wood Green Crown Court sentenced Packer to life imprisonment, with a minimum of six years and five months behind bars before he can apply for parole. He will remain on licence for life.
Fatal Attack Sparks After Lost Phone Accusation
On June 4, Peter O’Loughlin, who was in poor health, took a bus to Holloway Road. Unbeknownst to him, Packer, heavily drunk and wandering nearby, had dropped his phone.
Believing Peter had stolen it, Packer confronted him and launched a vicious verbal tirade before punching him to the ground. The attack didn’t stop there.
Brutal and Cowardly Assault Caught on CCTV
Packer continued to kick and punch Peter as he tried to rise. Onlookers stepped in, but Packer threatened them, hinting he had a knife, then fled the scene.
Police found Peter, who showed no visible injuries at first and refused immediate ambulance treatment, saying he would get to hospital himself.

Once at hospital, Peter’s condition worsened. Scans revealed a brain bleed from the savage attack. He tragically died on June 26.
Packer was arrested on July 1. Despite CCTV evidence, he denied involvement and stayed silent during questioning. But on trial day, he admitted manslaughter, sparing himself a murder charge.
Detective Sergeant Kerry Burgess said: “Wayne Packer was so drunk he didn’t even notice losing his phone. Instead, he took out his anger on an innocent, frail man. This senseless, cowardly attack cost Peter O’Loughlin his life.”
