Brits Stranded Abroad Can Now Transit Through UAE on Flights Home
A new deal means Britons stuck overseas can catch flights home via the UAE. The UK and UAE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) allowing UK-chartered flights to refuel and transit through the Emirates.
The MoU was signed today by His Excellency Khalid Abdullah Humaid Belhoul, UAE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC), and Patrick Moody, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the UAE, at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi.
Faster Repatriation for Britons Worldwide
This agreement is part of the UK Government’s global drive to bring stranded British travellers home quickly. Through the MoU, flights chartered to rescue Brits from across the globe can stop in the UAE for refuelling and transit en route to the UK.
UK and UAE Team Up to Beat Travel Disruptions
Patrick Moody welcomed the deal, saying:
“The UK Government is doing everything it can to get British travellers stranded abroad home. This agreement – a result of the very close partnership between the UK and UAE Governments – will help do just that, keeping vital transit options open.”
“I am very grateful to my colleague HE Khalid Abdullah Humaid Belhoul and his whole team at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for their support and for our joint work to beat Covid-19.”
The British Embassy in Abu Dhabi will now work closely with the UAE to put this MoU into action and ensure smooth transit for flights carrying Britons home.
