Gun Converted to Fire Live Ammo Found During Drug Raid in Rubery
Khalid Khan Caught Red-Handed
On 13 November 2021, 21-year-old Khalid Khan was arrested by the National Crime Agency’s Armed Operations Unit at a flat in Rubery. As officers stormed the premises, Khan threw a jacket, a packet of drugs, and a mobile phone out of the window and into the street below. But it wasn’t enough to escape justice.
Loaded Blank-Firing Gun Discovered
Inside the jacket pocket, officers discovered a Retay blank-firing handgun that had been illegally converted to fire live ammunition — and it was loaded. The drugs tossed from the flat turned out to be crack cocaine, adding to the serious charges.
Prison Sentence Delivered at Birmingham Crown Court
Khan, from Bacchus Road, Winson Green, pleaded guilty to firearms and drug supply offences last December. On Monday 28 February, he was sentenced to nine years and nine months behind bars at Birmingham Crown Court.
“Khalid Khan was effectively caught red-handed in possession of a deadly weapon, and didn’t seem worried by the fact there was a young child living in the same property,” said NCA Birmingham Branch Commander Mick Pope.
Commander Pope added, “We are determined to do all we can to disrupt and dismantle the organised crime groups putting guns on the streets of the West Midlands. But we need the public’s help. Anyone with information about illegal firearms should contact Crimestoppers or their local police.”
