Speeding driver from Southsea jailed for three years over Class A drug haul
Caught red-handed after reckless driving
Daniel Prenga, 25, from Heidelberg Road, Southsea, was slammed with a three-year jail term for supplying Class A drugs. Police caught him after stopping his speeding, erratic-driving vehicle along Eastern Road at around 12.25 a.m. on April 23.
Drugs, cash and phones seized in swoop
Officers searched Prenga and his car under the Misuse of Drugs Act and found Class A drugs, £195 in cash, and multiple mobile phones. A follow-up raid at a Prenga-linked address uncovered a stash of drugs, £2,580 in cash, more phones, seven sim cards, and drug paraphernalia.
Police praise proactive work
Prenga pleaded guilty in May and was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court on Wednesday, July 20. Detective Constable Paul Osborne, who led the probe, said:
“We are pleased with today’s sentence and that Prenga will now face the consequences of his actions. This was the result of some really good proactive policing.”
“There is an undeniable link between drugs and violence, which is why disrupting drug supply networks is such an important part of our mission. Results like today’s will help protect Portsmouth residents.”
“We are committed to combating drugs and related crime and keeping our communities safe. I hope this sentence serves as a warning to anyone thinking about dealing drugs in Portsmouth; it will not be tolerated.”
Community urged to speak up
Police have ordered the destruction of all seized drugs and phones, alongside the forfeiture of the cash. They are urging anyone who suspects drug activity in their area to come forward. Every tip, no matter how small, could help shut down drug dealers and make Portsmouth safer.
