Beastly Abuser John Kirby Jailed for Over Four Years

John Kirby has been locked up for four and a half years after a brutal spree of violence from January 2018 to August 2019. The 42-year-old subjected his victim to horrific physical and mental abuse that would shock even the toughest.

Shocking Campaign of Abuse

Kirby’s vile attacks included punching and kicking the woman in the head, dragging her by her hair, and pushing her down stairs while she was pregnant. In one terrifying incident, he throttled her until she lost consciousness.

  • Spat at her and locked her inside the house
  • Hid her car keys to trap her
  • Destroyed her clothes and threw food at her face
  • Demanded to know who she’d been speaking to

Violence in Front of Child

Kirby’s cruelty even unfolded before a young child. During a car journey in Wye, Ashford, he threw chips at the victim, punched her in the face, then pushed her to the floor and repeatedly kicked her—all while the child watched in horror.

Police Uncover Gruesome Evidence

Kent Police launched a full investigation after his arrest in August 2019. Secret recordings on the victim’s phone revealed Kirby’s chilling threats to burn her with hair straighteners and suffocate her before burying her in his garden.

At Maidstone Crown Court, Kirby pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and multiple assaults. Two extra charges for assault and controlling behaviour were left on file.

Justice Served

On 13 May 2022, Kirby of Southborough, Tunbridge Wells, was sentenced to four years and six months behind bars. Upon release, he’ll be slapped with a restraining order to keep him away from his victim for good.

PC Gabriella Edir said: “People like Kirby make victims’ lives an absolute misery. He used extreme fear to control nearly every part of this woman’s life and continued to terrorise her even after their relationship ended. Thanks to her bravery, we secured this justice. Domestic abuse remains a key priority for Kent Police. We urge victims to come forward—you are not to blame and help is out there.”
