Man Charged After Spraying Substance at Police in East London

Assault and Firearm Charges Laid

Terrance Nelson, 29, of Sandal Street, E15, was charged on Friday, 3 January with two counts of assaulting a police officer. He also faces a charge of possession of a Section 5 firearm.

Violent Incident on Sandal Street

Police were called at 7.30pm on Thursday, 2 January following reports of an altercation on Sandal Street. Upon arrival, officers arrested Nelson on suspicion of a Section 4 public order offence.

Police Officers Sprayed During Arrest

During the arrest, Nelson sprayed a substance at two police officers. Thankfully, neither officer suffered lasting injuries but both required hospital treatment.

Court Appearances and Bail

Nelson was remanded in custody and appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 4 January. After pleading guilty, he was released on bail to return on Wednesday, 15 January, pending pre-sentence reports.
