Colleague’s Killer Charged Over Sgt Matt Ratana Shooting
Homicide detectives have charged Louis de Zoysa, 23, in the fatal shooting of Sergeant Matt Ratana on 25 September 2020. De Zoysa, from Park Road, Banstead, Surrey, faces murder, firearm possession, and ammunition charges.
Suspect in Hospital but Now Facing Justice
Since the shooting, de Zoysa has been in hospital under police guard. His condition, once critical, is now stable and non-life threatening. Police kept close contact with his medical team and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) throughout the investigation.
Charging Decision Brings New Twists
Recent changes to de Zoysa’s health and a CPS decision led to his arrest and charges being laid on Tuesday, 29 June. He is set to appear via video link at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 30 June.
The police have informed Sgt Ratana’s partner and son of this major breakthrough in the case.
