Husband Found Guilty of Brutal Murder of Wife at Old Bailey
On Thursday 20 April, Asim Hasan, 33, from Newham, was unanimously found guilty of murdering his wife, Aaisha Hasan, 34, following a chilling trial at the Old Bailey. The verdict ended a harrowing case of domestic violence and brutality.
Hasan faces sentencing on Thursday 25 May at the same court.
Ferocious 26-Stab Attack
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who led the investigation, described the attack as “ferocious and savage.” Hasan stabbed Aaisha at least 26 times. Despite her desperate attempts to defend herself, she stood no chance.
“Hasan had denied murdering Aaisha, claiming he had no intent to cause serious harm. The jury rightly rejected this, recognising that such a sustained brutal attack clearly shows intent to seriously harm,” said DCI Rogers.
On 19 May 2022, Hasan made a chilling 999 call at 6:24am, confessing to stabbing his wife. He calmly told the operator he was waiting for police to arrest him.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and attempted CPR, but Aaisha was tragically declared dead on arrival.
Evidence of Abuse and Fear Leading to Murder
Police arrested Hasan on suspicion of murder and charged him on 20 May 2022. During his police interview, Hasan simply said, “I am guilty, and you can charge me,” then refused to comment further.
A post-mortem revealed Aaisha suffered 36 sharp force wounds, including 26 stabbing injuries, underscoring the ferocity of the attack.
The court heard the couple’s relationship was riddled with problems, including financial disputes and Hasan’s abusive behaviour. Aaisha lived in fear, secretly recording his violent outbursts and confiding in friends.
- Just 10 days before her death, she messaged friends describing how Hasan had attacked her after an argument.
- She said: “I don’t want to call the police on him because it would get him into serious trouble, I just want him out the house now. I don’t feel safe.”
- On 10 May, she secretly recorded Hasan refusing to let her leave a room and threatening to kill her with a knife.
Neighbours overheard the argument and police responded, but Aaisha appeared unharmed and made no complaint, so no action was taken.
Detectives later found photos on Aaisha’s phone documenting bruising to her face dating from late February to early May – solid evidence of ongoing abuse.
Police Urge Victims to Speak Out
“Domestic abuse is often hidden and severely under-reported. For many, home isn’t safe,” warned DCI Rogers. “We urge victims to reach out – police and support agencies will listen sensitively and act robustly to keep you safe.”
“If you suspect someone you know is suffering abuse, please report it to police or Crimestoppers anonymously. Your call could save a life.”
