South East London Man Guilty of Sexual Assault on Two Teenage Girls on Buses

Andrew Godman, 34, from Brockley, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two 13-year-old girls on separate buses in south east London within one hour. The verdict came after a trial at Woolwich Crown Court on 19 June.

Disturbing Attacks on Busy London Buses

The first attack happened on a crowded Route 126 bus heading towards Eltham on the afternoon of 15 November 2018. Godman sat next to the girl, trapping her between himself and the window and sexually assaulting her for about 30 minutes. Despite her repeated pleas and attempts to alert other passengers, the assault continued.

Less than an hour later, Godman was captured on CCTV boarding a Route 273 bus in Lewisham. He groped a second 13-year-old girl’s thigh during a five-minute assault. The victim managed to escape by getting off earlier than planned.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest

  • Both incidents were reported immediately to the Met Police’s Roads and Transport Policing Command.
  • A media appeal with Godman’s image prompted public tips that led officers to his Brockley home within days.
  • Godman admitted to sitting beside the victims but denied any sexual assault.
  • He was charged with two counts of sexual assault in February and appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court.

Detective Condemns Deed, Urges Vigilance

“These were appalling sexual assaults in public on two young, vulnerable girls who were understandably left shaken and distressed by the attacks,” said Detective Constable Darren Barlow, who led the case.

“Despite clear CCTV evidence, Godman denied wrongdoing and tried to discredit the victims, making them relive their trauma in court. Thankfully, the jury saw through his lies. We urge everyone to stay vigilant on London’s transport and report suspicious behaviour immediately.”

Godman will be sentenced on 19 July at Woolwich Crown Court.
